ELLERSLIE FLOWER SHOW

A SCENE FROM THE DISPLAY BY WETA WORKSHOP
THE CREATORS OF ALL THINGS WEIRD AND WONDERFUL IN PETER JACKSON'S FILMS
THE HOBBIT, LORD OF THE RINGS

We had a wonderful day. It was fairly cool this morning after a wind change coming from the south. With a cloudy sky and cool breeze we knew we were in for a comfortable day. We left after 10 am and drove right into the park without having too far to walk to the entrance and no queue. Last time we queued for about an hour so that was a good start. We enjoyed wandering around in the light crowds very thankful a cool morning had obviously kept many away. Other days the temperature had been higher, probably going over 30'C/85'F in the Show area.
Ten minutes in we lost Wayne and Amanda not finding them again for another 3 hours. I took many photos, not all of them good ones. How do you react when someone steps in front of you as the shutter works. Because of the poor light my camera was not always fast enough and the automatic flash was well used.

I had thought about getting extra memory cards but didn't and used every single space I had. I think we might be buying a new camera in the next few days. I need one that is easier to use, especially the viewer. Wayne's camera impressed me. I'll check the quality against my current camera first.

We stopped for coffee at the show but went to a Café for late lunch followed by a visit to Amanda's parents then home. My lunch was completely satisfying and I did not eat again before going to bed.

I am always surprised by the changes food has taken in my life since I went wheat free last year. I enjoy good food. I look for fresh, tasty and healthy stuff, I enjoy my meals but I can eat when it suits me. My body does not demand to be fed every 3 hours and hunger is relative to my activity. There is a freedom around food that I am enjoying
THE CAFÉ WHERE I ATE A DELICIOUS CHICKEN AND BACON SALAD
AND A BERRY FRIAND WITH CREAM
NO COFFEE, JUST COOL WATER.

  2. These are so fun! There are some fantastic "floral artists" in that show. I especially enjoyed that pond, with the swirling green grass pieces floating in it. That bench had me laughing: "Never take life seriously. No one gets out alive anyway."
Loved what you said about the freedom you are experiencing around food. Great start to your vacation. :-)

  5. What a great show and gardens!! Love those benches!!! Hooray for you to get to go to Hawaii, we went there a couple years ago, to the Big Island too..be sure to go to the botanical gardens north of Hilo...it was a wonderful experience to see all the flora and fauna, tho quite the hike down and then back up, BUT they had carts for people wanting/needing help. Don't know who it is you visit at prison- I, too, have a brother I visit, not the most pleasant thing a person can do, but at least I can leave whereas he can't. The things we do to ourselves, right. I cry every time, thinking of my sweet little brother (as that is how I still think of him, a year old with golden curls) in there with those people. Some of surely do make the eyebrows raise :)....

  6. So sorry to hear about the drought conditions! Both of my grandfathers were farmers, that can be rough times! LOVE your photos. I'm not fond of the heads coming out of the water, though. That freaks me out! :-) Hope you have a fantastic time in Hawaii!!!! Can't wait to see more photos of your adventures. :-)
